Wasaga Beach Revitalizes Bold Plan Soars above World's Longest Freshwater Beach
Cal Patterson, Mayor of the Town of Wasaga Beach is pleased to announce that council has approved a motion to permit the construction of Blue Beach Avenue Corporation's two feature attractions for the pedestrian mall at beach front. This bold initiative will be operational by June 26th, adding to the Beach's attractions, activities, food and beverage aspects and overall retail experience. This site preparation will begin as early as May 9th.
This joint venture between the municipality and brothers, Dov and Armand Levy, is made up of two major components. 'Splash Pad', a free, interactive water play area, will be operational by the 3rd week in June and open daily from 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. and a 540 sq. metre, geo-Dome, with a 1,440 sq. metre deck for a stage and bleachers with a capacity exceeding 1,000. The Dome will serve as a venue for a show developed exclusively for Wasaga Beach by Toronto-based Zero Gravity Circus who will perform three 90-minute segments weekly between mid-July and Labour Day. When the show is dark, the Dome will host special events and will facilitate annual attractions such as Corvette Weekend and the Not So Pro Beach Volleyball Tournament. The entire structure, including a large observation deck, will be elevated one metre.
A 2,520 sq. metre tent called the Wanna Do Zone will house interactive games and concessions. Open daily between noon and midnight, the tent will be suitable for additional special events. This Fun Zone provides a large shaded area and activity centre for people of all ages includes a special play-friendly surface, a rock climbing wall and basketball courts. Under the tent, to partake in the games and activities there is a nominal daily fee, with an option of a 2008 season pass. There is no charge to take in the fun.
A new presentation area, information centre and two brand new food and beverage offerings will expand and compliment current popular destinations such as Bananas Beach Club, the completely retrofitted The Dardanella and the built-out Coppa Cabana restaurants.
There are also extensive, new and renovated retail outlets including national retailers such as Blue Notes. Other additions include several landscaped areas with extended parking, plentiful pay phones, ATMs and public washrooms. The concept includes parking lots that can be converted into basketball, tennis and soccer courts and a concert venue with temporary tiered seating.
"The Dome will be built on the site of last year’s fire," said Mayor Patterson. "The council, merchants and residents of the town are wholeheartedly behind the project and anxious to present this new side of Wasaga Beach to our millions of visitors."
Blue Beach Avenue Corporation will also commence further planning on the permanent multi-million-dollar Blue Planet, an indoor-outdoor theme park that includes a 36,000 sq. metre shopping plaza, restaurants, conference centre, hotels and an amphitheatre.
